The under eyes, also known as “tear trough” and “nasojugal groove”, starts at the inner corner of the eye, follows a line of an arc underneath the eye area, and ends at the outermost corner of your eye. This crescent shape that lives underneath our eyes is actually a normal part of the human anatomy in fact everyone has this.
We may already be born with dark circles and it may also develop as we age. The skin underneath the eyes is 1/9th the thickness of the skin Additionally, as we age the delicate skin in this area begins to lose volume and fullness, getting thinner and more translucent. This can cause dark circles and bags to appear – leaving you looking older and tired, even on your best days.
Additionally, as we age, our medial and lateral cheeks begin to descend lower and sag causing our tear troughs to appear hollower and more sunken.
We have a variety of methods to address the under eyes. The most popular method is using hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a sugar molecule that is naturally occurring in the body. When injected carefully and correctly, HA gives our eyes a well-rested look, appearing as if you have just awakened from a full night’s sleep. As an under eye filler it can alleviate dark circles and the sunken, hollowed outlook that often comes with age, taking years off your facial appearance. What you are left with is a bright, refreshed look that is years younger – in just a short treatment.
