Semaglutide

Losing weight isn’t always as simple as eating less and exercising more. Appetite, hormones, metabolism, genetics, medications, sleep, and other health factors can all influence how your body manages weight.

Semaglutide is a prescription medication that can support long-term weight management by helping regulate appetite and increasing feelings of fullness. At Rejuuv Medi Spa, semaglutide is offered as part of a physician-monitored weight management program, with your treatment personalized according to your health, goals, response, and tolerance.

Rather than simply prescribing medication, our goal is to help you approach weight management safely, realistically, and with ongoing medical support.

REJUUV

What Is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications called GLP-1 receptor agonists[1]. It works similarly to GLP-1, a naturally occurring hormone released by the body after eating. One of GLP-1’s roles is communicating with areas of the brain involved in appetite and fullness. Semaglutide can help you feel fuller and less hungry, making it easier to reduce food intake and maintain healthier eating habits over time. Semaglutide is also used in certain formulations to help manage blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. At Rejuuv, our program is focused on its role in medical weight management for appropriate patients. Health Canada has authorized semaglutide products[2] for both type 2 diabetes and chronic weight management, depending on the specific product and indication.

How Does Semaglutide Help With Weight Management?

Reduced Appetite

Semaglutide affects appetite-regulating pathways in the brain[3], helping reduce hunger and making smaller portions feel more satisfying.

Increased Fullness

You may feel satisfied sooner and stay full for longer after eating, which can make it easier to manage portions and overall calorie intake.

Fewer Cravings

For some people, having less persistent hunger can make it easier to make intentional food choices instead of constantly thinking about the next meal.

Sustainable Weight Management

Semaglutide is designed to support long-term weight management when used together with healthy lifestyle habits and appropriate medical supervision.

Benefits of Semaglutide

For appropriate candidates, semaglutide may help with:
  • Meaningful, gradual weight loss
  • Reduced hunger and appetite
  • Feeling full with smaller portions
  • Improved ability to maintain a calorie-controlled diet
  • Improvements in certain weight-related health markers
Results vary from person to person. Studies show adults with overweight or obesity who received once-weekly semaglutide 2.4 mg together with lifestyle intervention lost an average of [4]14.9% of their starting body weight over 68 weeks, compared with 2.4% among participants receiving placebo and lifestyle intervention. Individual results can be significantly higher or lower.

What Can I Expect?

Semaglutide used for weight management is typically administered as a once-weekly injection under the skin. Everyone responds differently. Some people notice changes in appetite relatively early, while meaningful changes in body weight generally develop gradually over several months.[5] Your physician will monitor how you respond and adjust your treatment when appropriate. The goal is progress instead of rapid weight loss at any cost.

Side Effects of Semaglutide

Like any prescription medication, semaglutide can cause side effects. Gastrointestinal symptoms are the most common, particularly while your body is adjusting to treatment.

Common Side Effects may include:[6]

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Bloating or indigestion
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
Your physician will review the potential benefits and risks with you before treatment and advise you on symptoms that require medical attention. This is one reason we believe medical supervision matters.

The Rejuuv Approach

1. Physician Consultation

Your journey begins with a medical consultation. Your physician will review your medical history, current medications, previous weight-management efforts, goals, and any factors that may affect whether semaglutide is appropriate for you.

2. Prescription & Pharmacy Dispensing

If semaglutide is appropriate for you, your physician will provide a prescription that can be sent to a licensed Canadian pharmacy for dispensing.

3. Personalized Treatment Plan

Treatment typically begins at a lower dose and is gradually adjusted over time. Our medical provider will determine your dosing plan based on how your body responds and how well you tolerate the medication.

4. Ongoing Medical Monitoring

Your progress is monitored throughout the program. This may include reviewing:

  • Weight-management progress
  • Appetite and eating patterns
  • Treatment response
  • Side effects and tolerability
  • Overall health and wellbeing

Your physician can adjust your treatment when appropriate and address any concerns that arise along the way.

5. Long-Term Weight Management

We want to help you develop a realistic and sustainable approach to weight management, with medical support, healthier habits, and a plan designed around your individual needs.

FRequently asked questions

Is semaglutide the same as Ozempic?

Semaglutide is the active ingredient, while Ozempic and Wegovy are brand names for semaglutide products with different approved uses and dosing regimens. In Canada, Wegovy is specifically authorized for chronic weight management in eligible patients.

Your physician will determine which treatment, if any, is appropriate for you.

How much weight can I lose?

There is no single number that applies to everyone.

In a clinical trial[7], participants receiving semaglutide 2.4 mg plus lifestyle intervention lost an average of 14.9% of their starting body weight over 68 weeks. Your results can vary depending on your response to treatment, dose, lifestyle, starting weight, health and how long you remain on treatment.

Do I still need to watch my diet and exercise?

Yes. Semaglutide is intended to complement, not replace healthy nutrition and physical activity.

Because appetite may be reduced, the quality of what you eat becomes especially important. Your Rejuuv team can discuss habits that support your overall treatment plan.

What happens if I experience side effects?

Mild gastrointestinal side effects can occur, especially when starting treatment or increasing the dose. Your physician can assess your symptoms and determine whether your treatment plan or dose progression should be adjusted.

Is semaglutide safe?

Semaglutide has been studied extensively, but like any prescription medication it has benefits, side effects, contraindications and potential risks.

Whether it is appropriate for you depends on your individual health profile. This is why Rejuuv’s program begins with medical assessment and includes ongoing physician monitoring.
